Forestry Operations Manager

Position:           Forest Operations OHS Manager

Reporting to:    Fiber Director



To provide support and direction in reducing serious injuries, fatalities and near misses through strong safety leadership in all forest harvesting, loading and haulage related activities and strong advocacy in forest operations OHS management. It is anticipated that 30% of this role will be field based.



  • Sound technical and operational knowledge of safety management with experience in leading change in safety performance at an industrial scale;
  • Background in forest plantation management and silviculture (tools, equipment, mechanised systems) an advantage;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Forestry/Science or Safety Management with demonstrated business  and contractor management experience;
  • Proven track-record in leading the development and application of Standard Operating Procedures at an industrial scale;
  • Proven track record in applying best practice with a demonstrated contribution to raising reducing safety incidents and improving cost efficiencies;
  • Ability to lead a team and be a team player with strong people and communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Experience in conflict resolution with demonstrated ability to mentor staff and make decisions through consensus.


Job Description:

  • To plan, execute and monitor existing Forest Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure operational awareness and implementation;
  • Revise and develop new operational procedures as required with clear objectives, milestones and timeframes;
  • Developing systems and processes to support  staff performing field evaluations, certifications and quality assurance;
  • Assist in development of contracts to ensure Forest Operations OHS matters are up to date;
  • To coordinate with Fiber Best Practice to lead in the development of efficient practices and process for high quality and cost-effective application;
  • To guide and direct key plantation staff in Forest Operations OHS development matters, and mentor them for career development purpose;
  • To be responsible for Forest Operations OHS knowledge management and to leverage skills and talent to ensure technology development activities add value to the company’s core business;
  • To develop strong links with all fiber operations within the Group and with external reputed forest safety institutions in order to keep up with the latest development and information.
