How Kraft Recovery Operations Can Impact Your Mill

Effectively and efficiently recovering BLS and CTO as well as CST from the pulp mill is one of the best ways to improve the throughput and the revenue of the pulp mill.  It's often overlooked through because its not the highest priority, the business of making paper is to most paper companies. The problem is that the process is often given to the entry level engineers who aren't clear on the benefits or why the secondary means of revenue should and  could be so important to them.

 Very poor recovery processes can result in a mill that is no longer safe or secure.  CST could explode or ignite being as flammable as it is and with the right discharge of static electricity, a real problem could ensue. In addition, it can be toxic when you inhale it, causing even more problems. There is an excellent market for CST and CTO, products that are used to create ink, adhesive, paint, tires, vitamins, perfumes, fragrances, and even food additives. The revenue that is created from the recovery products can boost revenue by as much as 25 percent when these products are diligent recovered and sold. Additionally the failure to recover the products can cause problems in the mill, slowing the process immensely causing bottlenecks and other problems.

The Kraft Recovery cycle is one of the most important things that you can do to save time and money. There are a wide range of well defined best practices that are designed to improve the output of the mill and the safety when handling CST and CTO. Knowing the practices, the best methods of recovery, the techniques that will improve the yield is imperative. It will yield improvements in nearly every aspect of the mill.

In the most recent studies the effects of the Kraft Recovery process on the mill was that pulping capacity was affected directly and the bottlenecks were far less when the recovery process was well done. The soap that accumulated caused increased boiler fouling and increased total reduced sulfur emissions.

Primary air supply must be increased and other problems can also take place. Soap storage tanks can overflow and toxicity increases as does fish mortality.
