Finding the Right People to Support a Changing Business Focus in the Forest Sector

There was a time when the paper industry was powerful enough, they could focus on manufacturing enough product to meet paper demands. But in the digital age, fewer items are being printed and that means there needs to be a shift when hiring paper professionals. Instead on looking at those who can simply operate machinery, there needs to be a focus on those who have leadership development potential and exceptional customer service skills.

In fact, customers should come first and foremost when you are searching for the best people to place in the forest sector. With the right employees on hand, you can cater to the needs of the customer and make sure that they remain engaged and are ready to purchase products in a moment. No matter if it is as simple as closing a deal with an established partner, or seeking out new business, your staff needs to have the skills necessary to make things happen.

When hiring paper industry professionals, you want to know these people have an idea about the products and services you are selling. Find someone who is passionate to learn what the current state of things is in the forest sector and help to push them to success. The goal with this individual is to spark interest and excitement in the process.

Leaders are also a vital part of the process. You want to offer leadership development opportunities to those who rise to the challenge. Encourage your staff to keep current on the changing environment and trends and sign them up for courses that further enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities at the same time.

Routine training and evaluations are also important. As you search for the right people to place, don’t focus on the amount of time they have been in the industry. Instead, look at their overall knowledge. You want someone who is aware of the current factors that are impacting things and modern ways of handling things. If someone worked in the forest sector a decade ago, they wouldn’t have an idea of the latest rules and regulations, so they might not be the best candidate available.

Keeping on top of the customer is also important. This includes the ability to make a deal when the time comes and to spot the changing needs of the customer as they come to light. When you are able to offer something truly distinct and create a need for a customer, they will likely enter a negotiation to make the deal happen. It is important that you have the staff on hand who can elevate things so that the customer knows you can handle whatever needs arise and sell them on the idea of doing business with you. It’s a delicate balance and one that will take some time for your company to master. But it will ultimately pay off in the end.

Remember that the forest paper and packaging industry never stands still. It’s important to keep up to date with the trends and have the best people in each of your departments to ensure that your customer service remains spot on at all times. Make sure you take the time to invest in your staff and create routine training programs that helps them to further enhance the customer’s experience.
